World War 1 Remembered
Exhibition and lectures
One of our most successful events was held at the Carrigtwohill, hosted by the Community Council at Community Centre,
21st November 2014, where Gerry White (Historian & Author) of the Western front Association (Cork Branch)
with, Marie Fitzgerald, one of our own members, were our guest speakers for the event.
Gerry gave a general overview of
the effects of the war on the men at the front and on the communities at home.
Marie told the moving story her grandfather, Daniel Fitzgerald, a native of the village, who was a stoker aboard
HMS Tiger during the Battle of Jutland between 31st May 1916 & 1st June 1916.
Daniel happily survived the war.
