On average we are able to manage at least 4 or 5 events for each season, and not all are held locally. In the past we have visited other local historical societies, attending their lectures in Midleton, Cloyne, Aghada, and Cork City. Some of our past events are highlighted as summary tabulation; ordered current to last. click to read more.
We are are continually revising schedules of planned presentations, lectures, and guided tours for the current the season. These events shall be held at Carrigtwohill Community Centre unless otherwise advised, and shall be published in advance as usual, giving full details. So, do please keep an eye out for them.
A typical example is demonstrated alongside for an event planned for the weekend of 13/14 March 2020 marking the one hundredth anniversary of the ‘War of Independence’, sadly scuppered due to the invading Corona virus, now postponed to next year, all being well.
Another postponement was the gathering of the American Cotter clan to Carrigtwohill planned for 19/20 August, we were hosting. It is now envisaged this shall also take place 2021, to be organised between our committee and their coordinator.
For some event we have been able to capture on video. These of course are very much armature productions with occasional glitches and poor audio at times. These videos are included within their relevant webpage, and additionally posted on our YouTube channel.
One activity we were able to participate in was an by invitation from the ‘Celebrating Cork Past’ committee to contribute to a film they were producing in the absence of annual exhibition as a result of the restrictions imposed upon us this year. Those who participated were invited to submit a short passage about their society or group, limited to one hundred words. Not an easy task! Ours is included below with a link to their YouTube channel.
